Using Ketchup Bottles to Support Veterans: Heinz Responds

Heinz's "Our Turn to Serve" campaign, prominently displayed on its ketchup bottles, really impressed me during during a recent visit to a Chili's restaurant and I posted pictures of the pro-veteran labels on my Facebook page.

After being asked whether the wonderfully labeled ketchup bottles were available for public purchase, I did a little research.  This year, they were made available to restaurants across the country.  For each "like" on Heinz's campaign Facebook page the campaign generated, and each online message sent to the troops through a partnership with USO, Heinz has been donating money.

Heinz's donations -- up to $300,000 -- go to the Wounded Warrior Project, one of my personal favorite veteran-related charities because of all the incredible things they do for seriously wounded troops.

I decided to contact Heinz to inquire as to whether individuals could also purchase the pro-veteran labelled ketchup bottles.

Below is their response.  While they didn't really answer the question as to whether they'll eventually make the bottles available to the public, their support for veterans is certainly commendable.

Dear Anthony,

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments on the Heinz® Ketchup "Our Turn to Serve" campaign.

We certainly will forward your comments to our management staff - they are always interested to know what consumers, like you, have to say. We believe it's important to celebrate our veterans and to say thank you to those who have served our country through military service. In fact, Heinz has a long history of supporting our veterans, and even converted one of its plants to manufacture parts for planes in WWII.  Heinz is continuing the tradition today through the partnership with Wounded Warrior Project and a promotion that makes it easy to say "thanks."

We're so glad that you are supporting our charitable campaign. Be sure to visit your local restaurant now through December and look for the special edition bottles that feature "Our Turn to Serve" on front labels to participate in the promotion.

We appreciate your kind words and your loyalty to our products. We also celebrate and thank everyone who serves our country.
